Of course she knew--or was she incompetent or negligent or did not read her briefs

Children DO NOT transmit the virus, said Professor Mark Woolhouse, a member of Sage, in August 2020. ‘There are thousands and thousands of transmission events that have been inferred [from contact tracing] – out of all those thousands, still we can’t find a single one involving a child transmitting to a teacher in a classroom.’

In August 2020 a European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) report concluded that ‘re-opening schools had not been associated with significant increases in community transmission’.

Have you written anything on the several groups writing to the commission about children's voices being silenced in the inquiry? I heard a snippet about it on the radio the other day. Wasn't sure if Us4Them is one of those groups. Suspect so?

Yes we did. We have co signed the letter, and raised it with the Covid Inquiry directly. We do need to make sure they are heard.

An interesting article - thank you. What is not mentioned here is the problem of getting teachers into school. Teacher's unions and teachers themselves were opposed to a mass return to school. Normal school function would have been impossible without the support of teachers and from March 2020 it was apparent that teachers did not want to be in schools due to the impact of the fear campaign being run by the government. In order to learn from this experience there needs to be more thought around how teachers and school leaders can be involved in pandemic preparations so that schools can stay open. Schools must be part of critical infrastructure so that the resources are available and preparations made so that this never happens again.
